The EVO-STIK League East Division side were re-instated into this season’s competition after Kidsgrove Athletic were found to have fielded an ineligible player in beating them 2-1 in the preliminary round.
That meant they were drawn at home against Yaxley, who pipped the Cuckoos to the United Counties League title last season, having been separated from them in the league system by the moving of boundaries that saw Yaxley and Peterborough Sports go in to the Southern League.
The visitors took the lead through Thomas Waumsley after 25 minutes at the Elgoods Fenland Stadium, before Wisbech earned a replay thanks to Sam Gaughran’s equaliser four minutes later.
That replay will take place on Saturday, with the winners going through to face Ramsbottom United at home in the second qualifying round on Tuesday night.
It means Wisbech’s scheduled East Division league match with Pontefract Collieries on Saturday has been called off.
Kidsgrove were removed from the competition following a hearing last week.
In a statement, the club said: “The removal surrounds an error in the permission letter for Jacob Twyford’s eligibility for the competition.
“The club were not aware of this error until we reregistered Jacob last Friday, we immediately informed the FA and Kidsgrove Athletic maintain that at no point have we tried to mislead or deceive anyone.”
Twyford, 19, is currently on loan at Wisbech from Stoke City.
