Tuesday's Premier Division action review

Altrincham moved ten points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK League Premier table on Tuesday night after a powerful first half display blew visiting Stourbridge away at Moss Lane, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Altrincham`s opening goal came in strange circumstances after 13 minutes when Connor Hampson’s cross flew across the face of goal, keeper Matt Gould let it go and the ball struck the inside of the back post and went in. A minute later it was 2-0 as James Poole scored with a firm low shot.

Ten minutes later, Jordan Hulme’s low cross was turned in at the far post by Poole to make it 3-0 in the 25th minute. The fourth goal arrived after 38 minutes when Jordan Johnston`s a low shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net.

After a first half like that, the second period was always going to be a little less frenetic and, despite a partial power failure, the game was able to be completed with the Glassboys 'winning' the second half with a goal from Luke Shearer two minutes after the restart.

Tuesday's only other game saw Matlock Town end a run of three successive defeats with a 2-0 win at the Weaver Stadium against Nantwich Town.

The Gladiators got off to a good start when Michael Williams put them in front in the ninth minute. Half-an-hour later, Ricky German doubled the visitors' lead – a lead they held on to for the three points on offer.
