Flapjackery Opens Its Doors  in the Centre of Fowey

A new shop dedicated to flapjacks will open in Fowey next week (June 22, 2023). Flapjackery will open its doors on Fore Street selling its famous chunks of gluten free flapjacks alongside a host of other mouth-watering treats such as fudge, chocolate and clusters.

It’s the second shop Flapjackery’s founders Carol Myott and Sally Jenkin have opened in Cornwall, with St Ives, their first venture on Cornish soil, opening last year.

Like St Ives, Fowey will support its local RNLI, with Fowey Lifeboat Station the recipient of its charitable donations.

The shop will donate 50p or £1.50 for every Fowey-specific box of three or six flapjacks, as well as 20p for every customer who opts not to use a recyclable box.

Based at Tavistock in West Devon, Flapjackery is renowned country-wide for its incredible pieces of flapjacks which come in a number of flavours like Cherry Bakewell, Clotted Cream Fudge Flapjack, Cream Tea Flapjack (the Cornish way) and Salted Caramel Brownie. They are packed with the best British Oats, with toppings sourced from the West Country. Indeed, its award winning Clotted Cream Fudge flapjack is made with cream from Cornwall’s Trewithen Dairy and Freda’s Peanut Butter, made in St Neot, is in all its peanut butter flapjacks.

Carol Myott said: “We’re hugely excited to be opening in Fowey which is a gorgeous town with a bustling centre. This is our seventh shop opening for Flapjackery and we’re really pleased to be supporting Fowey RNLI. It’s a charity we are particularly fond of – we also support the local lifeboat stations at Minehead and Plymouth too.”

Carol added: “Flapjacks are great for every occasion too, from being the perfect accompaniment for a bracing walk along the South West Coast Path, to a treat with afternoon tea.”

Flapjackery sprang from Carol and Sally’s love of home baking in 2015. They were making cakes for the farmers’ market in Tavistock, having both semi-retired and realised their flapjacks were very popular, not least because they had elevated this humble, oaty treat by creating extraordinary and extravagant flavours.

Today the business is thriving with three separate elements – an online shop, seven retail outlets and trade stands at shows and events across the UK.

The flapjacks have also won many Taste of the West Gold Awards, with three more products earning a coveted gold this year, adding to the five they won in 2022 and  four in 2021.

Managing the Fowey shop will be Sarah Gibson who comes with plenty of experience having previously worked in Flapjackery Plymouth and Flapjackery St Ives.

Carol said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Sarah back to the team. She has lots of experience which is really great as we love to integrate with the local community and get involved with lots of different things, from supporting a local charity to always dressing our windows according to special events in the area.”
