Newboys collect their first accolade

Title-chasing Cleethorpes Town have collected their reward for getting off to a flyer in their debut season in the EVO-STIK League!

The second-placed Owls were honoured on Saturday when they were presented with the Northern Premier League South Division's combined Team of the Month award for August and September before drawing 1-1 at home with fellow promotion-chasers Stocksbridge Park Steels.

EVO-STIK League official statistician and historian Dominic McKenzie is pictured at Grimsby Borough's Bradley Football Development Centre taking time out from writing the NPL's official history marking its 50th anniversary season to hand over the accolade after Town were named as one of one of the inaugural winners of this term's monthly accolades at the start of October.

Unveiled alongside Shaw Lane in the top flight and fellow newboys South Shields in EVO-STIK League North, the club was the last of the trio to collect their prizes - a glass memento and a bottle of spirits to mark their success.

The newly-promoted Northern Counties East League champions and manager Marcus Newell won their first honours since coming up by topping the table with a points average of 2.6 after eight wins and two draws in an undefeated start to life in EVO-STIK League South in August and September.
