New book is out to chart early years

A new book telling the story behind the formation of EVO-STIK League Matlock Town is out on sale.

Penned by Susan Tomlinson and priced at £15, 'The Early Years of Matlock Town Football Club' features 250 pages of results, match reports and social history covering the early years of the Gladiators in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Pre-ordered copies of the Gladiators history went on sale at the weekend and the paperback, including signed copies with dedications from the author, the wife of long-serving and late Gladiators president Mike Tomlinson, will also be also available in the club shop at the DCJ Group Insurance Arena in time for Christmas.

With the help of the censuses and old newspapers, Tomlinson's history is packed full of snippets about the lives of the Derbyshire club's fans, players and officials at the time as well the facts, stats and stories of their first seasons told in chronological order.
