Mossley are expanding their community involvement again, with this project following their partnership with homeless charity Emmaus and their recent invitation to Emergency Service personnel to attend a game for free at Seel Park. They have also given the unwaged an opportunity for reduced entry and receive basic skills training to facilitate a way back into the workplace.
“We’re really proud to be the first NPL club to join “On the Ball”. Orlaith, Erin and Mikaela have done a great job spreading the word and getting clubs on board. We heard about it and straight away felt it was the right thing to do. We want to support our community and hope that by providing free sanitary products, our female fans will feel part of the Mossley AFC family. The reaction has been very positive - this shouldn’t be a taboo subject and we wanted to play a part in highlighting period poverty and, like “On the Ball”, trying to make things better.”
The “On the Ball” campaign was created by Orlaith Duffy, Erin Slaven and Mikaela McKinley - three Glasgow Celtic fans - to help provide free sanitary products for women at all UK football grounds at the professional and semi-professional level to help end “Period Poverty” and also help an ever-growing number of female attendees at sporting events. The Premier League report that 25% of their overall attendance is female; in the Northern Premier League more and more ladies are getting involved with their local clubs as both supporters and as volunteers. Other clubs involved with the campaign are reigning EVO-STIK League Champions Altrincham, Premier League sides Huddersfield Town and Brighton and Hove Albion, and Scottish Premiership sides Motherwell and Kilmarnock.
