Manchester City vs Leeds Stats & Facts

  • Man City have won their last three Premier League games against Leeds by an aggregate score of 14-1 — as many times as they’d beaten them in their previous 15 meetings in the competition (D5 L7).
  • Leeds lost this same match by a score of 7-0 last season, they last lost consecutive away games to City in April/November of 1992.
  • Manchester City is unbeaten in 58 of their last 60 Premier League games in the 3pm Saturday kick-off slot (W50 D8). Both of the remaining losses came from Crystal Palace.
  • Leeds has set a new Premier League record but not for good reasons, they’ve set the record for most goals conceded in a month by a top-flight side. They’re the second side to conceded 23 goals in one month since Birmingham City in 1965.
  • Since they’ve returned to the Top-flight in 2020, Leeds have won more games in the month of May than they have in any other month. They however won only one of their four May games last season with their win over Brentford that avoided their relegation narrowly.
  • The Opta supercomputer places Manchester City’s chances of winning at 84%, a draw at 10% and Leeds winning at 6%.

Manchester City vs Leeds Recent Form

Here are the five most recent matches for Manchester City and Leeds in all competitions. This information gives us a good idea of form for both teams.

Manchester City Recent Form(WWWWD):

  • 3-0 vs West Ham – Premier League
  • 2-1 vs Fulham – Premier League
  • 4-1 vs Arsenal – Premier League
  • 3-0 vs Sheffield Wednesday – FA Cup
  • 1-1 vs Bayern Munich – Champions League

Leeds Recent Form(LDLLL):

  • 1-4 vs Bournemouth – Premier League
  • 1-1 vs Leicester City – Premier League
  • 1-2 vs Fulham – Premier League
  • 1-6 vs Liverpool – Premier League
  • 1-5 vs Crystal Palace – Premier League

Carrying on their streak of brilliant form that’s seemingly been season-long, City are without surprise the favourites to win the league, and this match will be no obstacle for them. With a predicted win percentage of 84% and fans becoming used to their wins which frequently feature 3+ goals from them, this comes without surprise. Will City be able to replicate their 3-1 win against Leeds from earlier in the season?

Leeds on the other hand have lost four of their five most recent games in the Premier League, (since they’re not in any international or domestic cup). Their defeats have been numerous and by many goals which doesn’t bode well for their matchup against possibly the strongest attacking-minded team in the league in City. After suffering two defeats in which they conceded 5+ goals, it’s likely that it’ll happen again; something to consider when placing your bets for this weekend’s game.

BTTS Market

Despite Leeds’ bad form, they’ve managed to sneak in at least one goal in every match they’ve played for the last five matches; a strange statistic considering their hopeless defeats. It goes without saying that Manchester City will score, although if looking at this betting market from a common sense standpoint I’d say that Leeds won’t score. However, the statistics say otherwise and paint a pretty convincing picture. I’m forced to predict that both teams will score.

BTTS Verdict: Yes

Over/Under Market

There have been over 3.5 goals in three of Leeds’ last five games, combining this with City’s voracious affinity for scoring 3+ goals every match against just about anyone I’d say that over 3.5 is a comfortable bet for the accumulator even. I predict that City will be conserving their players, like Kevin De Bruyne, for their clashes in the Champions League and FA Cup final against Manchester United. Unless City find scoring extremely easy I don’t think that a 5+ goal win is necessary or probable from Guardiola’s side. He may want to trial some of his other players for bigger games in this easy matchup; a proving ground of sorts.

Over/Under Verdict: Over 2.5 very likely
