Extreme Paddleboarding Challenge Postponed by Oil Spill Finally Completed

World record paddleboarder, David Haze, set to complete his world record paddleboarding challenge in Poole but was postponed due to an oil spill. He has finally completed his challenge run.

David Haze from Bournemouth is an extraordinary eight time world record holder in stand-up paddleboarding. His latest record breaking feat was set to see him paddleboard for 24 hours non-stop on the first of April, however was postponed because of a major oil spill incident. The accident on March 26th saw 200 barrells of reservoir fluid dumped into the Poole water column.

Poole Harbour reopened after 160,000 litres of “oily/water mix” and six tonnes of contaminated beach and soil material and contaminated PPE was recovered.

As a member of the group “Surfers Against Sewage”, David has expressed his interest in seeing whether there is still any noticeable damage to the water.

“For an event like this it is all about the mental side of things, more so than physical,” he said.

“So I was a little deflated but I’m back in the zone again and ready to go.”

To take part in this feat, he teamed up with Watersports Library, an online community aiming to bring watersports to the masses through a borrowing and sharing scheme to give less fortunate people access to good equipment.

A free barbecue was available on the day for supporters and like-minded people supporting David.
