“Liverpool Should Pay No More Than £30m for Mason Mount” Says Robbie Fowler

Speaking to “Sunday Mirror”, Robbie Fowler has said that Liverpool should pay no more than thirty million pounds for Mason Mount, currently at Chelsea, this summer. This comment comes after the news that Liverpool are supposedly not interested in Borussia Dortmund star and England international Jude Bellingham.  It’s become as clear as day that Jurgen Klopp needs to overhaul his midfield in the coming months. It’s been a disappointing and difficult campaign for the reds as their lack of stability in the midfield has been a key struggle for the side.

The club’s eventual decision to not target Bellingham is understandable as he’s expressed his desire to stay at Borussia Dortmund, however, it’s now important who Liverpool target as their midfield maestro. It’s increasingly likely that the club will begin targeting Mason Mount, who currently plays for Chelsea. Fowler makes it clear in his statement that he’d be happy for Mount to hang up his Chelsea shirt and play at Anfield but he doesn’t think that the club should overpay an exorbitant amount for the 24-year-old.

“I’m not being disrespectful when I say Mason Mount isn’t worth more than £20-£30m. Not because he’s a poor player, but because he only has a year left on his contract,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

“No way should any club pay more than that.”

Robbie Fowler

Worryingly for both Fowler and Liverpool, Chelsea appears to see value in their world-class midfielder and have priced his exit accordingly. Reports from the tabloid “The Athletic” suggest that the London club want a whopping £70 million for his signature.  That is an exorbitant sum of money for a player who is out of contract next season.

Additionally, Mount’s form this campaign absolutely does not justify such a hefty price tag as Chelsea has had a more shocking season than Liverpool and is even lower in the table than the Reds. Mount’s stats don’t scream £70m either as he’s bagged just three goals and two assists for Chelsea this season. It’s highly likely that Chelsea will come to their senses and realise that Mount is out of contract next year anyway and that they’d rather get £30m for him in the summer rather than let him go elsewhere, whether it be Liverpool or not, for free.
