Brackley lure hot-shot away

By David Watters

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Barwell have lost top scorer Danny Newton to Conference North outfit Brackley Town but have brought in three players including striker Joe Halsall.

Newton, who was with the Canaries on loan last year in the Southern League, signed on a permanent basis from Conference Premier outfit Nuneaton Town in the summer. The former Hinckley United striker scored ten goals in thirteen games.

Manager Jimmy Ginnelly will be hoping Halsall can step into his shooting boots at Kirkby Road after joining the Leicestershire outfit from Southern League South & West side Stratford Town along with Tamworth duo Connor Gudger and James Wren. Halsall helped fire Stratford to the Midland Alliance title last season and has previously played for Redditch.

Midfielder Gudger returns on loan. A product of the Coventry City Academy, Gudger signed for the Lambs in the summer of 2011. He was previously with Hinckley United on loan from the Sky Blues and enjoyed another spell at the Knitters on loan from the Lambs last season.

Wren is a former Walsall youth team keeper who joined the Lambs at the start of the 2012-13 season after his release by Burton Albion.
