Blues chosen to be Beeb's cup stars!

2 months ago By David Watters

Frickley Athletic's fans, players and officials are looking forward to the BBC streaming their all-Yorkshire Emirates FA Cup first qualifying round tie with Maltby Main on Saturday.

BBC Sport's cameras will be at the Muglet Lane home of the Northern Counties East Football League Premier Division club to screen the lunchtime kick-off after the EVO-STIK League East Blues routed Liversedge 10-1 in the preliminary round.

Millions of fans of the world's oldest cup competition are expected to watch thanks to the BBC kicking off their coverage at the very start of the competition in the extra-preliminary round instead of the first round proper for the second season running.

Radcliffe FC triumphed 2-0 at Prestwich Heys in front of BBC Sport's cameras in the last round and Saturday's 12.30pm kick-off will be once again streamed live across the corporation's digital platforms, allowing audiences to watch the game live on their PCs, mobiles or via the Red Button on connected TVs. The tie will also be available live and on-demand on the BBC iPlayer.

Like the 13 EVO-STIK League clubs who come through Tuesday night's 11 Emirates FA Cup replays involving the competition's clubs, the Blues will be aiming to bank £6,000 on Saturday as victors as well as playing in front of a worldwide audience.

The BBC kicked off their extended coverage a month ago with the extra-preliminary tie between Haverhill Rovers and Haverhill Borough. Northern Premier League Warrington Town famously beat Exeter City in the first live match on the BBC in nearly a decade in 2014 when live FA Cup football returned to the corporation from the first round proper.
