Bentham is back from down under

Atherton Collieries manager Michael Clegg is looking forward to seeing Tom Bentham find his EVO-STIK League shooting boots after the 2018 Integro League Cup winners snapped up the striker on his return from Australia.

Clegg hailed the arrival of the 25-year-old former Maine Road, Hyde United and Nantwich Town hot-shot on Monday as "massive" for the EVO-STIK League West club in a statement on the Colls website.

Bentham, pictured, scored 15 goals in 34 appearances for the Tigers in National League North after kicking off his senior career as Maine Road's top scorer in 2011-12 to earn a move to the Dabbers.

Clegg told fans: “This is a massive signing for the club. I’ve always had a good relationship with Tom and kept in touch. Him and Luke Giverin are best mates so they were a duo I have always wanted at the club.

"When Tom was at Hyde United a few years back he had interest from a Football League club and he has real ability. He is a big strong lad, eye for goal and makes the forward line really impressive."

He added: "There will be a real fight on peoples’ hands this pre-season to stake their claim. The forward lads we have now are a very strong group and all very different players.”
